When the plastic is in a liquid state, it is poured into a cell, or mold, where it hardens. This is usually considered the best quality of acrylic plastic as it has the best all around characteristics for cutting, gluing, forming and tensile strength. Cell cast offers the widest choice of sizes and colors including white and clear. It is the most expensive of the three, but can be produced in very small quantities; as little as 10 sheets for a custom color. SG or Modified Acrylic is higher impact, ten times stronger than standard acrylic and less expensive than cell cast. It offers good cutting, gluing and forming, but has 1/3 the color and size selection. MC or FF refers to extruded plastic sheet. Extruded is the least expensive of the three. In manufacturing, the plastic resin is sent through a series of rollers that shape the length and thickness. Extruded plastic has a tighter thickness tolerance than the other two plastics, but suffers in fabrication. If you have ever cut or routed plastic that melted as you went through the material, it was most likely extruded plastic. One way to prevent this problem is to reduce your rpms and speed up your feed rate. We carry router bits designed to prevent these problems, ask your sales rep for information on Beline router bits.
